Measure a reference garment
Lay a garment that fits on a flat surface without stretching it. Record chest width from armpit to armpit, body length from the stated shoulder point, shoulder width and sleeve length. For trousers, record waist width, rise, inseam and thigh width. Photograph the tape position so you can reproduce it. Keep body measurements separate from garment measurements.
Read the seller chart before converting sizes
Check units and whether the chart gives a flat width or a circumference. A 56 cm flat chest is approximately 112 cm around the garment, but it is not a 112 cm body-size recommendation. Look for the seller’s measurement method and tolerance. Do not assume that S, M, L, EU or US labels are consistent across sellers or product versions.
Use differences to ask a specific question
Example: your reference hoodie measures 56 cm across the chest and the warehouse photo shows 53 cm using the same endpoints. That is 3 cm less flat width, or roughly 6 cm less circumference. This calculation identifies a meaningful difference; it does not decide whether you should size up. Compare length, sleeve, fabric stretch and intended fit before making that decision.
Treat shoe measurements separately
Measure both feet while standing and use the larger measurement with the seller’s own chart. Distinguish foot length, removable insole length and outsole length: they are not interchangeable. If asking for an insole photo, request heel-to-toe measurement with both endpoints visible. Width and internal shape also affect fit, so a matching length alone cannot guarantee comfort.
Resolve uncertainty before international shipping
Request a flat, unobstructed measurement photo when the tape bends, starts away from zero or hides an endpoint. Save the chart and QC evidence together. If the result is outside your acceptable fit range, review exchange or return options while they remain available. A generic conversion chart should never override a clear measurement of the actual item.
